Who Else Has Surplus Copier Equipment Due to Downsizing?
Do you have surplus copiers and printers due to locations that are being closed? If the equipment is owned by your organization, the surplus devices can be sold at auction or through an advertisement or moved to another location that could utilize the equipment.
However, if you are looking to sell the equipment and it is under a lease agreement, you’ll need to take care of the lease agreement before you can sell the equipment. Your options will depend on the amount of time remaining on the lease agreement.
If there is more than a year remaining on the lease agreement, the lease company may not allow you to pay off the remaining payments and return the device. Unless you can find someone else to assume the lease, your only option may be to buyout the lease so that ownership transfers to you, at which point you can sell the device.
If you have another location that could utilize the equipment, here are several things to consider before deciding to move the copier or printer to another location:
- If the device is under lease, get permission from the leasing company to move the device and use an authorized shipping company
- Get quotes from two or three authorized shipping companies to find out how expensive it will be to ship the device to the new location
- Check to see if there is a service company in the area where the device will be moved to who can service the device - if the device is under lease, you probably don’t have the option of running the device without a service contract
- Get a quote from the service company for a service contract - keep in mind that the service company (unless they are affiliated with the company who is currently servicing the device) will most likely charge an inspection fee and that there will probably be some initial service costs to bring the device up to the service company’s standards
- Check to make sure the location where you’d like to move the device to has sufficient space and power requirements for the device
